Historical Slots

There is such a large amount of slot machines in the casino these days that the presence of them has become a custom - one which is often overlooked and underappreciated.  So when did slot machines begin invading casinos to begin with?  Well, first of all, slots did not have their debut in a casino.  It was more like a saloon, or gambling parlor, if you will.  As you might guess, the very first slot machine came out in Nevada.  It was built by the mechanic, Charles Fey, some time in the 1890's.  Mr. Fey built the machine, which he called "Lady Liberty", by hand, and went on to build more after its popularity grew.  Lady Liberty was first introduced into a small gambling parlor as a means of occupying guests of gamblers who would sit down at card tables for indefinite lengths of time.  And although there were rumors that the machines were stealing money, people could not stay away from them.  Soon thereafter, saloon owners everywhere in Nevada were trying to get a Lady Liberty.  However, the machines were hard to obtain since Mr. Fey would not sell the rights to the invention, but would instead only sell them if he was guaranteed 50% of the profits.  This worked fine and dandy until these illegal gambling parlors started being raided.  All the money, including all the Lady Liberty's were confiscated.

Later on, when gambling was eventually legalized in Las Vegas, a gangster by the name of Bugsy Seigel undusted Lady Liberty, and brought slot machines into the casino.  From that point on, the popularity of slots grew so much that many casinos were pressed to have enough of the machines on their gambling floor. Most casinos these days have more slot machines than most other games combined.  This is a good sign, especially for the progressive slots player, since the more slots there are, and the more people playing the slots, the more the jackpots are going to pay off.

Besides jackpots in seven figures, part of the slot machine's intrigue is the interactive nature of the machines.  Playing a slot machine is almost like having a conversation with a somewhat intelligent robot.  Many of the sounds and images the machines produce are engaging - sort of like playing a video game.  Awaiting the possibility of victory is tolerable when there is some form of entertainment going on, which the slot machines surely provide.  You will hear many slot players say they don't play the machines for the money.  It is a fun and exciting pastime - And if it just so happens to pay out some cash, that is icing on the cake.  Slots have made many millionaires, which isn't a bad prospect for any gambler.

From the days of old, when a slot machine had one payline and twenty symbols, to the days of late, when sitting at a computer can be equivalent to playing a real Las Vegas slot machine, slots in all their shapes and forms, have kept millions of gamblers entertained and coming back for more.  They have broken banks and made millionaires.  But most of all, Las Vegas slot machines have made Las Vegas online casinos what they are today - Fun and exciting getaways like no other.
